About the author
My name is Angelica B. Ortiz de Gortari. I am a licensed psychologist with master degrees in mental health and bioethics, and in Human Rights and the Best Interest of the Child.
I started investigating about Game Transfer Phenomena for my master thesis at Stockholm Univeristy. This was an extraordinary experiences and I am very thankful with all my participants. After analyzed players experiences in my study I called it Game transfer phenomenon. Currently, I am doing my PhD studies at Nottingham Trent University, researching about the psychosocial, cognitive and physiological effects of video game playing.
My PhD project focuses on “The Game Transfer Phenomena” (GTP). It explore how video games experience can be transfer to the real world and their psychosocial, cognitive and physiological implications. GTP occurs when video games’ elements are associated with real life elements triggering subsequent thoughts, visualizations, impulses and behaviours.
My experience in the analysis of Internet and new media use dates back to 1998 when I began conducting explorative research at UDEM on the psychosocial implications of Internet use. I have participated in television and radio interviews and presented at various conferences. During the past years, I have been living in Sweden. In Sweden, I worked at the Swedish National Institute of Public Health (FHI).
I consider myself pro-technology and my interest in the study of interactive media derives from my strong curiosity and need to understand the interaction between human beings and technology with the goal of maximizing the psychological and social benefits of interactive virtual technologies while reducing the risks or dangers it can present to some individuals.
I declare I’m a video game player!!!
Some of the articles I have written in Spanish and English include titles such as “Psychosocial implications of use of Internet” (2000), “How internet can change our life” (2000), “Breaking the known” (2000), Virtual casinos more than gambling (2005), “Psychosocial implications of online video games (2007),” Second life survey: Resident profile, gambling and engagement”(2007), “Playing beyond the mirror: Video game’s mechanism, phenomenon and their impact of the human psyche”(2009), “Evocative objects in the digital culture”(2009),“Interactive media technologies challenges and risk among youth”(2009), “Targeting the real life impact of virtual interactions: The game transfer phenomenon. 42 video games player’s experiences”(2010).
